I Know It When I See It...
by Stiffy Biceptz
Every once and awhile a music video is made that captures your attention. Regardless of the song or the band, something about the video makes you stop and watch and say "Cool!" or "Wow!" or "How stupid!"
The other day I flipped on one of the MTV family of video channels. It certainly wasn't MTV itself, since everyone knows they don't play videos anymore. I think it was MTV2 and I think it was their Rock Video Countdown or something like that.
The video for "Go With The Flow" came on, by Queens Of The Stone Age. Now let me tell you, if you haven't yet seen it, well ... it's OVER the top. The video is done with a sort of black light effect, where all the band members' faces are dark except for an outline of fluorescence. Artistically speaking it was quite powerful and I was forced to keep watching. Suddenly the fluorescent outline of a hot babe gyrating in a bikini appeared and she proceeded to basically have intercourse with the entire video for it's remaining few minutes. I sat with mouth agape as the band AND the truck they were driving in, and I think a guitar "coupled" with the shapely luminescent outline. This was followed by an "explosion" from which flowed a cloud of creatures that looked oddly like tadpoles.
I quickly looked at the channel guide to make sure I hadn't accidentally tuned to some porno channel that my wife had signed up for without informing me. I then scanned the room hoping my young son hadn't seen any of that. He was safely upstairs.
Relieved that no one was around, I sat back on the couch exhausted and said to myself "Now THAT was a video!" I wiped the sweat from my forehead and contemplated a cold drink, and maybe a cold shower.
If you get the chance, check this video out. It's so ridiculously unsubtle its funny, yet still compelling. And the outline effect really magnifies the impact. The tune itself is OK, and works well with the video.
So if you're having trouble explaining the birds and the bees to your kids, just let them watch this video. It'll all be clear to them in less than 4 minutes.
Excuse me while I go find the wife...
