ALTROK Ordinals 44

Roddy Frame - Surf (Cooking Vinyl/spinART)
Jeff says: Best known as the leader of the early-to-mid 80's Scottish band Aztec Camera, Roddy quietly released his second solo record Surf late in 2002. Stripped down acoustic gems pretty much all the way through. Some of his strongest songwriting too. You may or may not remember Aztec Camera's "new wave-era" hits Oblivious, Walk Out To Winter, Good Morning Britain, and their great reworking of Van Halen's Jump, to name but a few. And this record will probably be overlooked by most, but you should do yourself a favor and seek it out. There are several tracks on this record that should impress. Small World, Over You, I Can't Start Now, Tough, and Turning The World Around is just a start; the same clever, Elvis Costello-like wordplay is still there. Tinges of country, soul, and (since it's an acoustic record sung by a guy with a British accent) reminiscent of Nick Drake.
