Please Don't, Don't Stop
by Shaun "Bastard" Nelson
Of course, I'm a They Might Be Giants fan. Love them, never get the band
members confused with each other. John's the guy that sings and John's the
guy that plays. Sometimes they switch.
At work, I listen to MP3s. A lot. And I have a standard rotation of music
I like, and of course, TMBG figure heavily in the mix.
"Don't Let's Start" is a great little song by John and John; one that they
parleyed to get one of their first record contracts. The biggest problem they'd soon face was the songs that they had made for their next record, which weren't "Don't Let's Start." Seems the people producing the album, and financing it, would rather
have had a slew of clones of a fast paced love story gone bad, than
something outside the box.
Which of course led TMBG to a different record company, a gig on Letterman,
and of course more records.
But that little song, it all it's 2:41 glory, was the kick that John and
John needed to convince themselves that could do this music thing full time.
