ALTROK Ordinals 8

Mundy - The Moon Is A Bullethole EP and "Mexico"/"July" single - Camcor (Ireland)
Jeff says: Okay, short version. 1996, 21 year old Irish singer/songwriter named Mundy is signed to Epic Records and releases quite possibly the best album of that year. The only song you may have heard was "To You I Bestow" from the Romeo & Juliet soundtrack. As the story usually goes, he gets dropped. Fast forward to 2001. He has self released these 2 records with a full length planned for this fall. (I suspect they are available at www.mundy.ie, his website.) The EP came first and is pretty much just Mundy on vocals and guitar with a lot of programming done by Andrew Phillpott, programmer to the stars. For the single he goes back to a traditional band and has 2 of the best songs from the "downtime" after Epic. For what it's worth, "July" is a hit single waiting to happen.

The Pressure Boys - The Complete Recordings (Plaid Cat)
Sean says: Synonymous with Chapel Hill, NC (at least until Squirrel Nut Zippers came along) these guys fused pop, ska, horns, and all that kinda stuff about ten years before anyone else in the US were. They gave up in 1988, but you can (and should) get all their recordings in this collection.

Various Artists - Live At The Night - WBJB
Jeff says: Okay, this may seem biased because I now work there, but I had nothing to do with the concept, recording, or creation of this CD. "The Night" is the Triple A radio station at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft NJ. as anyone who has listened recently knows, they take the format of Triple A to new boundaries. For instance, on my Thursday nights I've had to play (this is what the playlist called for, I have not broken the rules...yet. I swear!) Radiohead into Johnny Cash, Marvin Gaye and Fishbone in the same hour, and bands like Ned's Atomic Dustbin, Hoodoo Gurus, and Lloyd Cole for the first time in I don't know how many years. This CD features 18 artists recorded live in the WBJB studios over the last several months. Included are Richard Thompson, Jill Sobule, Steve Forbert and Vigilantes Of Love...who you should know. and Dave Carter & Tracy Grammer, Erin McKeown, Hangdogs, and Marah...who you might not. Try www.wbjb.org for more information.

Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros - Global A Go-Go (Hellcat/Epitaph)
Jeff says: Okay...Joe Strummer...The Clash...new band...Joe Strummer...new record...still toying with beats...Joe Strummer...JOE FRIGGIN' STRUMMER, MAN!!! What more do I have to say???
